Virginia Health Center

In 1980 Challenge Discovery Projects opened the Virginia Health Center (VHC), a licensed adolescent outpatient community clinic located in Richmond's East End. VHC provides counseling services for at-risk youth, ages 12-18, who face a multitude of challenges including substance abuse and emotional health issues. VHC is located in Church Hill at 719 North 25th Street and also operates out of the Community Resource Centers of Creighton Court, Fairfield Court, Gilpin Court, Mosby Court and Whitcomb Court.

VHC assesses each individual using criteria for the placement and treatment of substance related disorders. Based on the level of care determined, VHC develops an individualized treatment plan, which may include using additional community and public services. Therapy provided by VHC is designed to improve the emotional well being of the client and include evidence-based practices such as motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral treatment, and motivational behavioral treatment. VHC adheres to the "13 Principals of Drug Addiction Treatment" (NIDA).

Challenge Discovery Projects works with at-risk children to help them develop socially, emotionally and academically. Our commitment extends to the parents, teachers and school administrators who work daily to strengthen children and provide a safe, nurturing environment in which they will learn and succeed.
